Longer-horizon momentum in gold/silver/copper miners — monthly calls on the leaders while the metal trends, monthly puts when it rolls.
TEN-TWENTY-SEVEN WAS A BIG UP DAY AND IT STILL WAS NOT A RECLAIM. GDX 83.19 — zero of twenty closes above the 21-EMA at 86.24, still 1.07 ATR below it, -21% off the 105.52 high. The bounce tagged 83.23 against the 61.8% retrace at 83.41 and stalled there, on 15.7M against 32.4M on the 10/22 flush. Twenty-session volume is still heavier on down days (19.1M) than up days (17.9M). A one-day rip on the thinnest tape of the month, into the exact retrace line, inside a downtrend, is a gift. BUT MY OWN RULE FIRED AND I HONOR IT: RGLD closed 239.66, through the 238.92 that said halve. So I halved the gold short book into this bounce — the GDX puts from 86.10 are now half size, and I am not adding another contract until GDX closes back under 81.00 after tagging 83.41. That is the failed-bounce press, and it is the only fresh premium I write on the short side. Next rung is 77.40, the 78.6% of the whole 69.74-to-105.52 range. FLAT the gold book on a GDX close over 87.63. HERE IS WHAT ACTUALLY CHANGED AND I WILL SAY IT PLAIN: RGLD is the only ticker on the sheet above its 21-EMA (236.98) and its 50-EMA (237.52), and the only one with a positive twenty-session return (+0.3% against GDX -6.6). Higher low at 224.84, then a close on the high of the day. The royalty is telling me the metal underneath is bottoming while the miners cannot get off the mat. My second halve is an RGLD close over 241.69 (its 61.8%), and I am flat EVERYTHING on 243.80. WPM is the reason I am not flat already — 125.92, zero of twenty closes above its 21-EMA at 132.29, -7.0% over twenty sessions, leg low 120.89. When the strong royalty needs the weak sister to confirm and the weak sister will not, the flush is late, not dead. I also do not get flat on NEM: 112.64 with a 13.4% beat and a 10% cost-guidance cut and it still sits two of twenty above its 21-EMA. Good earnings do not buy a bid. Flat requirements: NEM over 118.91 together with WPM over 132.93. SILVER IS STILL BROKEN FROM TOP TO BOTTOM — every silver name on the sheet is 0/20 above its 21-EMA: HL 14.62 (-1.58 ATR), AG 15.64 (-1.12), PAAS 41.66 (-1.39), CDE 14.21 (-2.06 and -20.3% over twenty sessions). HL leads that group and it is the only silver instrument I hold. Half-size puts stay on, sized once at the start, and I do not add to a name at a six-month low. Rungs at 13.20 and 12.60 and that is the end of it. FLAT silver on an HL close over 15.86. Zero longs at any price before that. COPPER IS THE ONE LONG AND IT IS NOW A HALF POINT AWAY. SCCO 194.43 sits under a genuine confluence: 21-EMA 197.42, 50-EMA 197.28, 61.8% retrace 197.38 — three lines in half a dollar. It has the earnings beat in hand ($2.15 vs $2.04), eight of twenty closes above the 21-EMA, +4.5% on 1.26x volume, and at -11.5% off its high it is the shallowest drawdown on the sheet. I buy monthly SCCO calls on a daily close over 197.40. If SCCO clears that while GDX cannot clear 86.24, that is the rotation and the lever points at copper, not gold. FCX beat too (88c vs 80c, $7.55B) and closed 65.95 — 1.29 ATR under its 21-EMA at 69.12 — so it is the laggard of the pair and I would rather own SCCO. FCX long only over 70.44; FCX puts back only under 63.90. URANIUM AND THE CALENDAR: CCJ 82.41 into the 10/30 print, above the 78.60/79.07 shelf, +2.4% over five sessions against GDX -3.4%, six-month low 76.92 set 10/23. URA 35.86 has the worst twenty-session return on the sheet (-10.4%) and the best five-day (+1.9% on 1.32x volume). That is a bottoming attempt, not a trend, and I do not buy a bottoming attempt into a binary. Flat through CCJ's print. Post-print close over 84.10 (21-EMA) and uranium was collateral damage — then I want URA monthly calls. Post-print close over 85.41 is the same message louder. Under 78.26 and it is half-size CCJ puts. Same discipline on AEM: flat through the 10/28 number, puts only on a post-print close under 169.70, long only over 185.50, nothing in between. The metal sets the direction. I just hold the lever. And the lever is smaller than it was last week — that is the honest read when the strongest name in the complex reclaims its 21-EMA and the weakest one is a half dollar from a confluence breakout. I am half short gold, small short silver, flat copper with a trigger, flat uranium and AEM through the calendar. No heroics on a quiet up day.
