The metal leads, the miners lever it โ and on 10/27 the tape finally picked a side. Everything in my book closed 2-5% higher, but look at who did it on real volume: URA at 1.21x its 10/22 capitulation bar, GOLD 1.37x, SCCO 1.26x its twenty-day average, RGLD printing an engulfing bar at 1.12x. Everyone else bounced on less volume than they broke down on โ GDX 0.49x, HL 0.59x, CDE 0.67x, NEM 0.48x. That is not accumulation, that is short covering in an oversold tape. And every single name in this universe still has its twenty-day EMA under its fifty-day. So this is a counter-trend trade, not a turn, and I will size it like one until the structure says otherwise.
I'll say the thing I said I'd say out loud: my RGLD short thesis is dead. 223.02 never traded โ the low was 225.58 on 10/23 โ and RGLD is 239.66, above the ten, the twenty and the fifty while GDX sits 5.7% under its own fifty. The quality end of the ladder refused to break, and that tells me gold is not rolling; the operating miners are being strangled by cost inflation, not by the metal. I am done shorting the tape into that. I want to be long the confirmation, not long the hope: RGLD over 242.43 for the run at 246.94/254.63, SCCO over the pinched 197.3 twenty/fifty for the 208-211 shelf, and CCJ/URA into the 10/30 print with uranium spot near $96 โ above 2007 โ while the equities sit 33-38% off their May peaks. Those are the three metals that agree with each other.
The silver betas are the payload and they are not ready. AG is the one that matters most: it held 14.44 against the 14.11 July low, so the last domino never fell, and it closed 15.64 with its ten-day EMA at 15.68 โ six cents away, against a 70-cent ATR, which means I need a close and a hold, not a poke. 16.39 (the twenty) earns it small size; 16.55 earns it full. HL is 1.6% under its ten and bounced on the lightest volume of the entire decline โ nobody is buying it yet โ 14.86 then 15.68. CDE is 3.4% under its ten at RSI 31 with a 5.5% ATR; its 10/26 bar, a fresh six-month low at 13.12 that closed 13.64, was the exhaustion print, and 14.72 is the line I refuse to front-run. FCX beat on 10/27 โ 0.88 against 0.80, revenue +8.2% โ and closed +1.2%, still under its ten-day EMA. That is the same beat-that-cannot-lift pattern I called on NEM, and it is the one thing copper is warning me about. I want FCX only over 67.52 and I do not own it below.
The rules, in order. GDX 84.05 then 86.07 is the whole complex turning: reclaim the ten, hold two sessions, and the silver betas go full size in sequence โ AG over 16.39/16.55 first, then HL over 14.86, then CDE over 14.72, each on expanding volume or I pass. GDX losing 78.92 means 10/27 was a dead-cat bounce and I am back in the amplified puts on AG, HL and CDE without debate. Between those two poles: half size on the longs where buyers already outnumbered sellers, nothing on the names still bleeding under their ten-day, and no new puts into an oversold hole. Ten names, three agreeing metals, one line that decides it.
Watchlist
The clean way to own the uranium divergence: +4.37% on 1.21x the 10/22 capitulation volume โ the only ETF where buyers showed up bigger than sellers. Reclaimed 10 EMA, RSI 30. Next stop 37.03.
Highest-beta silver and the most suspicious bounce in the book โ 0.59x the 10/22 volume, still 1.6% under its ten-day. Nobody is buying yet. 14.86 is the line; over it I'm long toward 15.68, under 13.50 I'm in puts.
Only name with a heavier reversal bar than its breakdown bar (1.37x). +2.41%, above the 10 EMA, 1.5% from the 20. Barrick is the low-cost producer expression of the same RGLD signal โ quality works, cost inflation doesn't.
The exhaustion print: new six-month low at 13.12 on 10/26, closed 13.64, then +4.2% on the lightest volume of the decline. RSI 31, ATR 5.5% โ I need 14.72 closed and held, not poked. Amplified both directions, so it waits its turn.
The one metal pointing up. Held 180.82, reclaimed the 10 EMA at 194.28 on 1.26x average volume, engulfed the 10/22 breakdown bar. 20/50 pinched at 197.3 โ over that, 208-211. Invalidate under 185.75.
Copper lever with a dislocation: beat on EPS (0.88 vs 0.80) and revenue (+8.2%) and still closed +1.2% under its 10 EMA. Beat that cannot lift = exhausted bid. Long only over 67.52, and Grasberg's 23% sales drop is the reason I won't front-run it.
The regime gauge. 83.19 under the 10 EMA at 84.05 and the 10/22 breakdown open at 83.85; 20 EMA 86.07. Reclaim and hold two sessions = the betas go full size. Lose 78.92 = dead-cat bounce and I'm back in puts across the silver complex.
The last domino that never fell โ 14.44 held against the July 14.11 low. +5.3% to 15.64, sitting on its 10 EMA. This is the highest-beta silver name and the first one I buy when silver confirms: 16.39 small, 16.55 full. Under 14.44 on 1.2x I flip to puts.
Leader. Never traded 223.02 (low 225.58), now above 10/20/50 EMA with an engulfing bar on 1.12x avg while GDX is -5.7% vs its fifty. Tells me gold is not rolling โ the cost structure is. Long over 242.43 for 246.94/254.63.
Uranium spot near $96, above 2007 peaks, while CCJ is -33% off its May high. Reclaimed the 10 EMA at 81.53 on 3.3M into the 10/30 print. Trigger 83.88 (20 EMA); under 76.92 it's a short.
