Mark the line. Wait for the break. Trade the break. Tuesday finally paid the rule β and it paid it in only four names.
Read the tape honestly, because most of it is noise. TXN 308.91 on 1.28x, through the 298.94 base top (30 of the prior 60 closes sat inside 272-291) and to a 60-session closing high. ADI 425.35 on 1.26x, and this is the cleanest base on my sheet β 55 of its last 60 closes lived between 355 and 410.50 before Tuesday took it out. NXPI 253.50 on 1.58x is the best volume print in the whole group: post-earnings beat, through the 200 EMA at 246.34, to a 60-day high. QCOM 184.17 on 1.26x out of a 168-181 base, above all four EMAs. That is the rotation, and it's the story of the period: the analog/industrial/mixed-signal complex is being bought with size while the AI complex is left standing in the road. NVDA did +0.9% on 0.83x, MU 0.86x, MRVL 0.76x, ARM 0.80x, ASML 0.88x β a +3% sector day and the capex darlings could not buy a volume tick. Money is rotating out of the story and into the boring chips. I trade where the volume is, and the volume is in analog.
Size follows the rule, not my mood. TXN and ADI are full. NXPI and QCOM are half, full over 255.31 and 188.95 respectively. AVGO gets half and no argument β it closed 342.33 over the 337.00 trigger but on 1.19x, and 1.19 is not 1.2; full only on a 1.2x close over 345.67, and a close back under 336.87 means the break failed and I cut it. All three of TXN/ADI/NXPI are sitting 6-7% above their 10 EMA after three sessions up, so I do not add into that β I trail with the 10 EMA at 289.04 TXN and 404.26 ADI, work the 332.28 and 445.48 targets, and I cut the whole long book on a 1.2x close back under TXN 298.94 or if the gate dies.
The gate and the tells. TSM reclaimed 427.93 and the 10/20/50 EMAs but on 0.79x β that is not confirmation, it's a thin-volume reclaim, so I have not added size on it and I won't pretend it fired. 1.2x close over 438.58 and the bounce is confirmed, every long goes to full; 1.2x close under 426.00 and Tuesday was a dead cat and the long book halves. MCHP is one line away: +5.6% on 1.28x but the 200 EMA at 81.74 is still overhead β I don't buy two percent under a line. 1.2x close over 81.74 opens 83.39 then 85.97.
Short side, mostly closed, exactly as written. KLAC violated my own rule β I said any close over 152.00 and I'm out, it closed 153.66, so I'm out. No renegotiating a line after the fact. LRCX is a half-size runner from 260.81 sitting at 240.85 against a 241.25 cover: any close over 241.25 and I am flat, and there are no adds under any circumstance. No new shorts β LRCX, KLAC and AMAT are 44-49% off their highs and shorting the bottom of a drawdown is not what I do.
Two-sided names, because high beta cuts both ways. SMCI did +7.3% but on 0.92x and is still under 35.63 β the coil has not resolved, so: 1.2x close over 35.63 means the pop was never sold; 1.2x close under 33.23 fills 32.47 then 30.92. AMD cleared 548.44 on 1.07x, under my bar, so not a trigger, and it's parked on the 20 EMA at 560.38 into a Nov 3 print: long only 1.2x over 563.91, short only 1.2x under 538.50, and halve into the print. NVDA is my divergence tell, not a position: 1.2x over 220.10 and it rejoins the group; 1.2x under 210.18 and the whole tape is in trouble.
Rules for the period. 1.2x volume on a CLOSING basis, every time β an intraday poke is never a break. No anticipation: no buying two points under a line, no shorting a 45% drawdown. Cut fast on failed breaks and say so out loud. Halve into every print. And the one I'll hold myself to: I flipped this book on one 1.22x close, so I'll flip it back just as fast β if TXN loses 298.94 or TSM takes out 426.00, the longs come off and I don't argue with the tape.
The divergence tell. +0.9% on 0.83x on a +3% sector day, below the 10 EMA β the laggard. 1.2x over 220.10 it rejoins; 1.2x under 210.18 the whole group is in trouble.
NVDA β +0.9% on 0.83x while the group ran. The laggard is the tell
Below the 10 EMA. Long only 1.2x over 220.10, short only 1.2x under 210.18
Cleared 548.44 on 1.07x β under my 1.2x bar so not a trigger, and parked on the 20 EMA at 560.38 into a Nov 3 print. Long only 1.2x over 563.91, short only 1.2x under 538.50, halve into the print.
AMD β cleared 548.44 on 1.07x, sitting on the 20 EMA
Below my 1.2x bar: not a trigger. Nov 3 print. Long 1.2x over 563.91, short 1.2x under 538.50
Closed 342.33 over the 337.00 trigger on 1.19x β 1.19 is not 1.2, so half size only. Full on a 1.2x close over 345.67; close back under 336.87 = failed break, cut.
AVGO β 1.19x close over 337.00; half size because 1.19 is not 1.2
Full on 1.2x over 345.67. Failed break if it closes back under 336.87
Highest beta on the tape, coil unresolved. +7.3% but only 0.92x and still under 35.63. Two-sided: 1.2x over 35.63 = never sold; 1.2x under 33.23 = 32.47 then 30.92.
One line away: +5.6% on 1.28x but the 200 EMA at 81.74 is still overhead and I don't buy two percent under a line. 1.2x close over 81.74 opens 83.39 then 85.97.
Half-size runner short from 260.81, now at 240.85 against a 241.25 cover. Any close over 241.25 and I'm flat, no adds β the group is bouncing and the failed-break rule outranks the thesis.
The canary that fired and kept going. 1.28x close at 308.91 through the 298.94 base top, 60-session closing high. Full size. Target 332.28, trail 10 EMA 289.04, void 1.2x under 298.94.
Out of a well-defined 168-181 base (24 of prior 61 closes inside) on a 1.26x close at 184.17, above all four EMAs. Half now, full over 188.95, target 205.85, void 1.2x under 178.00.
Cleanest base on the sheet β 55 of the prior 60 closes inside 355-410.50, then a 1.26x close at 425.35 took it out. Full size. Target 445.48, void 1.2x under 410.50, trail 404.26.
The gate, not a position. Reclaimed 427.93 and the 10/20/50 EMAs on only 0.79x β unconfirmed. 1.2x over 438.58 confirms the bounce and takes every long to full; 1.2x under 426.00 = dead cat.
New name and the best volume print in the group: 1.58x close at 253.50 post-earnings beat, through the 200 EMA at 246.34 to a 60-day high. Half now, full over 255.31, void 1.2x under 246.02.
